I LOVE brother sister incest especially when they’re twins so this site is like heaven for me, I just wish there was a message board or something where the incest fans who come here could talk to each other. I’d like to read some of your fanfics on these shows and maybe make requests for a story but I don’t know where you post your fanfics or what your email is.
I am always thrilled to meet a kindred spirit. When I created this blog, I knew there had to be some people out there looking for exactly this sort of thing, and when they find me and I find them I get ridiculously excited.
I wanted this to be a community, just like you’re describing. I get quite a few visitors, and I know visitors are at least partially reading the articles because I can see when links have been clicked on, but there haven’t been very many comments. So it hasn’t quite formed up the way I wanted.
Thanks for commenting, by the way. You have no idea how much it means to me to see positive and thoughtful comments and responses to what I’ve written. I think commenting may be the closest thing to a message board that wordpress provides. I’ll always look at every comment put on this site. I respond to everything. But that’s not quite the same as a message board or forum.
Unfortunately, I haven’t written very much fanfiction at all. Even for my absolute favorite fandoms. My Zuko/Azula story is the only incest one that I’ve completed and published online. I’ve thought about other stories, or even started them, but they remain incomplete. Fanfiction.net and Livejournal are the best places to look for fanfic. archiveofourown.net is also good. I often just use google as well, putting down the characters names, or the name of the show/movie/book they were in, sometimes I’ll add the word incest if there’s lots of platonic or brotherly/sisterly fics like you might find in really popular fandoms.
I should do a much better job of keeping track of the good fics I’ve read. I don’t actually read that much fanfiction, I usually end up disappointed with the quality or by the fact that it’s just a smut fic and the characters are out of character and behaving nothing like themselves, but I’ve read some good Phineas/Candace and Ron/Ginny recently that I should have noted. I’ve got a few others saved on my computer, for other incest couples.
As for communities, fanforum is your best chance of finding a thread for an incest couple, but I don’t go there much because the format can be very cluttered, and there’s not usually much stimulating conversation. Livejournal can be good as well.
But I’m afraid, in general, that there are so few of us enthusiastic incest-shipping fans that we haven’t really found our place. The problem is that we probably have more in common with other incest-shippers than we do with the rest of whatever fandom is in question, but a bunch of incest shippers can’t talk to each other about different fandoms. It just doesn’t work. You see what I’m saying?
Anyway, long post short: it sounds like we want the same thing, but it doesn’t seem to exist quite yet. In the mean time, e-mail me! I would love it.
Oh, and on the fanfiction note: I would love to take requests, or try to refer you to good fics that I’ve read, if I have read any. I’m a total writer in my heart, but I have to be the right mindset. It’s hard to write a fanfic for a couple I haven’t seen or thought about in a while, because I’ve forgotten all of the details of their background and the exact dialogue and things like that, But I would absolutely try my best.

I love anything to do with the brother/sister relationship (even non-incestuous) as well – a bonus indeed. And even though I haven’t done a proper entry on them, Jaime/Cersei are one of my absolutely favorite pairings. It doesn’t get much better. Have you read the books?
Have read them all, one of my favorite series. Also love Dexter, have read/watched all of them too, have yet to watched the episode where deb dreams of kissing dexter; im 2 episodes away from that 🙂 probably my 2 favorite series’ atm. But I’ll pretty much watch anything with an attractive brother+sister in it. Im curious do you have siblings?
Now that I’m thinking about it more, it’s possible that Bonnie did die. I did not finish watching the series either, but I cannot remember when I stopped watching or why, and if Bonnie died then that would have been a pretty good reason. I seem to have repressed the memory, LOL. Firefly is definitely worth watching, if you enjoyed the movie. It’s basically just like the movie, only 10 hours more of it that takes place beforehand. It’s a great series – good stories, funny. And there’s a lot to mine where Simon and River are concerned. River even wants to marry Simon in one of the deleted scenes, so be sure to look for that if you do end up watching it. But like I said, it’s just like the movie, so that gives you a pretty good idea.
I haven’t quite finished A Dance With Dragons yet, but I’ve mostly read all of ASoIaF. Sometimes I think they were written for me I love them so much.
I watched the first season of Dexter. His relationship with Deb was definitely one of my favorite parts. But I just couldn’t quite get into it. I tried out the second season premiere about two years later, and it still wasn’t quite clicking for me. It’s really too bad, because it’s exactly the type of show I would like, with an anti-hero protagonist like Dexter, and all the delightful gore, and Dexter/Deb. I knew there was some suggestive stuff where Dexter/Deb was concerned – enough to tease someone like me who would enjoy that – but I didn’t know that she dreamed of kissing him. I might have to look up that scene on youtube.
I should probably put the answer to your sibling question in my About section because I’m sure plenty of people who come across this blog are curious. I do have a sibling – a younger brother. He’s about five years younger than me, which is a considerable difference depending upon how old you are. I started shipping incest big time my senior year of high school, and he was only 13 at the time – still a kid to me. I’d be pretty damn embarrassed if he found out I ran this blog, but only because I’d be worried he or someone else might misunderstand – it doesn’t really have anything to do with him or my relationship with him.
But even though I save my “shipping” for fiction, I don’t have a problem with consensual incest in the real world.
Ah k, thanks, i think ill give firefly a go then. Yeah debs dream i think happens in ep 10,11 or 12 of season 6. She has to see a psychologist because of a shooting and she goes back to her after- to talk about dexter. Her shrink suggests she may have unsisterly feelings for him, which promps the kiss scene. Their relationship sure is gona be interesting after that.. Can’t wait till she finds out about his serial killings.
I also see nothing wrong with real world consensual incest. So long as its not for procreating there isn’t a single reason why it should be wrong. It’s less ‘unnatural’ than homosexuality- now widely accepted. (not that i have a problem with gays). You cant help who you fall in love with 🙂 btw how old are you if you dont mind me asking? 23 here.
Yeah, if you liked Serenity, then I would definitely recommend Firefly. Who doesn’t want more of a good thing?
Oh, so this Deb/Dexter development is very recent? I wasn’t sure if it happened earlier on, like season 4 or something like that. If it’s a storyline still going on – that’s very interesting. I think I like her therapist – I love someone stirring the pot like that. It’s interesting that she makes that suggestion before the dream. You’ll have to keep me apprised of what’s going on, because I may have to start watching. Normally I hate not starting a show at the very beginning and watching every episode, but like I said, I watched the first season. I’d probably just dive in with the sixth in this case.
Oh I don’t mind you asking. I’m 25. My birthday was in November. I finished school but I don’t have a job yet, so I’m kind of stuck in a perpetual 23, though.

Oh, God. Finally someone who isn’t grossed out my shipping incest! I found your blog after reading your Spencer/Carly fic, and you have made my night. That fic was absolutely fantastic (seriously, how have you not been discovered by a publishing company and become a best-selling author yet?). I beg you to write more fics! Even if they’re not for iCarly, please keep writing.
After a little browsing of this blog I saw you shipped Justin/Alex from WOWP and Missy/Cliff from Bring It On. Couldn’t agree more with these pairings. Both have overflowing sexual tension and I couldn’t help but ship them!
And just like you, I used to be disturbed by the idea of incest. But then my views changed after I started watching Life With Derek. And, okay, they’re step-siblings so it doesn’t really count, but still. They were where it all began. And I haven’t looked back since.
I now ship a lot of siblings: Justin/Alex from WOWP, Carly/Spencer from iCarly, Tony/Effy from Skins, Axl/Sue from The Middle, and Dennis/Dee from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. And the latter couple is practically canon! Plus I ship many more sibling couples from various movies. I don’t know what couples you ship, but I’d love to hear 😀 I’d also love any recommendations you have.
Long story short, I’m glad you made this blog. It makes me feel like less of a freak for pretty much automatically shipping brothers and sisters (in fiction, of course. Although I am an only child, so I have no reason to get too freaked out in the real world). It’s good to know I’m not alone in the matter. Please keep posting because I will keep reading!!! ❤
Where do I even begin with how happy this comment made me? Seriously, you made my day. I welcome you with open arms.
What I wanted most for this blog to be was a refuge and a resource for those of us who ship incest and and I’m so glad that people are slowly beginning to find it. I’ve always had so many other things to do that I haven’t written as many entries as I wanted, and that’s my fail, because I wanted it to be so full of recommendations that you couldn’t possibly have time to watch them all. But I’ve been inspired, so hopefully I’ll manage to devote some more time to this place.
First of all, thanks so much for your praise of my Spencer/Carly fic. I do have to admit that I’m rather proud of that one, but I certainly doesn’t deserve all those nice things you said. Writing professionally would be a dream come true, so hearing from you that you thought it was that caliber means the world to me. (And hearing from another shipper of Spencer and Carly in particular is a delight for me.) I’m an incredibly slow writer – whether it’s a story or a post for this blog, that’s why I don’t get very much done, but I enjoy them both so much that I don’t plan on ever stopping if I can help it. I hope I’ll be inspired to write more fics. I started a Justin/Alex one which was going to be epic, but I lost heart. There’s a part of me that desperately hopes I’ll return to it some day.
Hmmm… another recommendation for Life with Derek. I really will have to check it out soon. I watched the first six episodes of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and couldn’t really get into it, although Dennis/Dee was very striking even in those few eps. I may have to give it another try.
Tony/Effy – of course. It was a few years ago I watched the first generation of Skins in one quick blow, and I kept most of the Tony/Effy scenes, but the quality is really low and I knew the screencaps wouldn’t look very good, so that’s why I haven’t done an entry on them yet even though they are very shippable.
I’ve only seen The Middle in passing, so I don’t even know who Axl and Sue are, but now I’m curious so I’ll have to check that out.
I have tons of recommendations – so many in fact that it’s hard to know where to start. As for television shows that are current, I have very few incest ships that I haven’t already mentioned on my blog. Jaime/Cersei from Game of Thrones is probably the only one I haven’t properly mentioned, although in the comments they are spoken of plenty. Game of Thrones offers plenty of incest shipping just because of how it is (the importance of family, the structure of the society, etc.), but also because GRRM who wrote the book obviously gets off on it a little. Robb/Sansa, Ned/Lyanna, Jon/Arya, and Viserys/Daenerys are some of my other incest ships for that show, if that gives you any idea of what a playground it is. And that doesn’t even include ones involving characters we meet in later books. But Game of Thrones is not everybody’s thing.
For shows that were cancelled or have ended already, there’s Justin/Iris (Carnivale), Octvian/Octavia (Rome), Michael/Lindsay (Arrested Development), Jack/Michelle (Kings), Boone/Shannon (Lost), Simon/River (Firefly), all of the kids on Scoundrels, George/Anne (Tudors), Arthur/Morgana (Merlin), all the kids on American Dreams, Stan/Bonnie (Jericho), Louis/Ren (Even Stevens).
Movies are just too much for me to think about right now. I need to get my thoughts properly organized. But like I said, I’m feeling inspired, so I hope to write a bit more on here. Now that I know it’s doing what I always wanted it to do.

Was bonnie from jericho the girl who died? I stopped watching that show as soon as that happened. Havent watched any of firefly series, though i watched the movie, think it’s worth watching?
Hey again.. so I was just channel surfing and I came across ‘The Fades’, which I remembered reading about here, just started watching it and am pleasantly surprised. I had low expectations, I’ve only seen the first 2 episodes, but I’m really enjoying it, so thanks:)
I’m wondering if you have watched ‘Shameless’? Either the UK or US version, I didn’t actually know there was a UK version till a while ago and am not sure if I’ll bother watching it or just stick with the US version. Lip is one of my favorite characters in any series.. and I love his relationship with Fiona.
I’ve also been considering starting watching ‘The Tudors’, ‘The Borgias’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and ‘The Children of Dune’ miniseries.. have you watched any of those?
I’m glad you’re enjoying The Fades. There’s only six episodes, so it’s not a huge commitment. Did you see it on BBC America? When it was first on, I was wondering whether it would ever air here in the U.S. It would have been a shame if it never did.
I did watch a couple episodes of U.S. Shameless when it first started. It had a lot of appeal for me – the tight knit family, and older teenagers like Lip (I really did love Lip) and Fiona. And I really enjoy shows about poorer families. But I had trouble getting into it – I think it was just a little too gritty for me, if you know what I mean.I remembering hearing that the first episode had been almost exactly like the first episode of the British one, but I don’t know about later seasons. I know I would really enjoy the interaction between Lip and Fiona – I’m always a little disappointed I didn’t take to it more.
I did pick Dexter back up, though. I went back and read summaries for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th season, and then I watched the 6th. It was a lot easier to do than I would have thought. But I really enjoyed the 6th season, and I almost wish I would have waited to watch it until just before the 7th, because now I can’t wait for the next one. I’m working on a Dexter/Deb entry, but I’ve been distracted with other things. Thank you for that, because if you hadn’t mentioned the dream kiss I probably never would have looked back.
As for the shows/miniseries you asked about, you’re in luck, because I’ve seen all of them. I would definitely recommend Children of Dune, but you need to see Dune first. It is hardcore Sci-Fi/Fantasy in a way that Game of Thrones really isn’t, though. It’s good to keep that in mind.
Boardwalk Empire…it’s hard for me to say. I seem unable to stop watching it, but there’s really only a couple things in it that I really care about. It does have everything HBO is rightfully known for – sexual content, shocking violence, well-developed and interesting secondary characters, original/non-formulaic plotlines. But it really is kind of boring in my opinion.
The Tudors and The Borgias are very similar. I stopped watching The Tudors after the second season. That’s when Anne Boleyn is executed, and I just lost interest with her and George Boleyn gone. But the first two seasons are lovely. Natalie Dormer (who plays Margaery on Game of Thrones and is Sarah on The Fades) plays Anne Boleyn and she was so great it was almost worth watching just for her. I just think visually it is very appealing, but the politics do get a little boring. It’s very repetitive. And there’s a lot of details about church law.
The Borgias would get my freest recommendation. Pretty much all of my thoughts are in the entry I did about it. So far the second season has been very much the same, although it’s better because Lucrezia is at home more. It has a weirdly dry quality to it that I can’t quite describe. A detachment. But even when the details of the political situations get boring, there’s usually witty dialogue spicing it up.
Hmm I can’t remember what channel I first saw it on, I just DL’d the rest after I watched the first episode. I was considering getting the UK shameless, but if they’re pretty much exactly the same- like most American versions of UK shows then I probably wont bother since I’m already into the US
I also can’t wait for season 7 Dexter, about time Deb found out about his hobby, I hope HBO handles it well, and I’m curious about how they are going to work the incest aspect. It’s been awhile since I watched it, but I’m pretty sure Deb was on her way to tell Dexter about her feelings, If that’s what was going on, I hope she still does instead of getting distracted by finding out he’s a serial killer lol.
So is the Children of Dune kind of a sequel to the Dune movie then? David Lynch films are always interesting, even if he distanced himself from this one I’m still curious. I think I’ll give all three of the other series I mentioned a try at some point.
Btw I just finished The Fades, nice ending.. now I’m kinda sad that there isn’t anymore of it. I looked around a bit for news on a Season 2, and from what I could tell; BBC had to decide on either a second series of that, or another of Being Human, and apparently they went with the latter. I watched about 4 episodes of that Being Human show and found it really boring, no idea how it got so popular.
I just thought about another series I watched about 3 or 4 episodes of- ‘Lip Service’.. Apart from Ruta Gedmintas being amazingly good looking in it, the only other thing that attracted me to it was an interesting brother-sister relationship. From what I can remember.. the siblings lived together and the brother was in love with his sisters’ best friend, who’s a lesbian, (that’s pretty much what the show is about), *I may have got some of that wrong*. I was wondering if you had ever watched any of it? one.
Oh, I hadn’t heard that there wasn’t going to be a second season of The Fades. I just looked it up – apparently it was only confirmed this month that no series 2 would be commissioned. That’s too bad. I would have enjoyed more, although I think it works well as one complete set. It does leave off on a cliffhanger, but I don’t find it to be an agonizing cliffhanger. I’ve seen movies that end sort of in that way, although I can’t think of any right now.
Yeah, Deb was on her way to tell Dexter about her feelings. Which I find hard to believe. I mean, it’s very brave of her, but she was just going to dive right in. If I were in her position, I would have laid some ground work. Slowly worked up to the idea. I feel like some blunt confession like that is only going to alienate him further. Of course she doesn’t realize just how alienated he is already. I doubt she’ll go through with it now that she’s seen him cutting up a body. But that’s going to be very exciting. I can’t remember exactly, but I think she’s said a few things in support of the bay killer, or whatever the nickname is for Dexter. I don’t think she’s got a totally black and white view on law vs. vigilantism. Although the fact that Dexter is a killer is obviously going to be an unpleasant shock. I think he’ll come clean with her all the way. I heard there’s only going to be 8 seasons, or that’s the plan anyway. They don’t have a lot of time to keep putting off all the big twists and revelations.
I’ve never seen Lip Service. I’d never even heard of it until you mentioned it, so I won’t have anything insightful to say about it. The wikipedia page didn’t even mention the brother.
I’ve never seen the British Being Human (and it’s supposed to be better), but I found the US one very boring.
As for Dune, there’s the one with Kyle McLachlan from the 80s that was directed by Kyle Lynch. Then SyFy did a miniseries in 2000, and Children of Dune is a sequel to that miniseries. They’re all based on books, of course, but Children of Dune has the same cast and continuity from the SyFy Dune. The SyFy Dune is also much longer, and has a lot of details from the book that Lynch’s Dune doesn’t. I’ve actually only seen the one by Lynch. Then I watched Children of Dune, without realizing that it was actually the sequel to a miniseries on SyFy and not the older movie. It was a struggle trying to figure out all the things I didn’t know because I had watched such an abbreviated version. Long story short (too late, I know): I’d watch the SyFy Dune miniseries and then Children of Dune. If you’re curious, you can go back later and watch the one by Lynch. Obviously, because it’s by David Lynch, it’s sort of weird (good weird or bad weird I leave up to your tastes) and stylized.
I have seen Liip Service, I forgot about the brother liking the sister’s friend. That is really as incestuous as it gets, but it is still a good show. I loved Being Human UK, I am not a huge fan of the US/Canadian one. I liked the first 2 seasons but it is not that great this year.
Super late reply but does ‘Being Human’ have brother-sister characters? If so do they have large parts and are they shippable? I have a terrible memory hahah.
Well, I watched the first season of Being Human US, and the werewolf character did have a sister, but she was a lesbian, if I remember right. So I wouldn’t call it very shippable, and she was only in a few episodes, although they did have an interesting relationship. To hide his secret he kind of ran away from his life and so there was some tension over that. I don’t know what happened in later seasons and I have no idea about the UK version.
Hey! Better late then never! The only brother/sister I remember from Being Human is from the US/Canadian version Sam (the warewolf has a gay sister), and in the UK one in the later seasons the new ghost Alex has a little brother and she is most upset about leaving him when she finds out she has dies and is a ghost. I have not watched this season or all of last for the US/Canadian version of Being Human so I am not sure if they have introduced any new brother/sister characters. There wasn’t many siblings in either show or if there were, they were not a huge part unfortunately. Hope that helps!

Hi there, I was trying to figure out what this movie is that I can’t remember the name of. I am not even sure if it was brother and sister or they were cousins who had sex and the girl got pregnant. They didn’t know they were related though. It’s not “Flowers In The Attic”. I watched that one, which was good except they left out the incest I guess to not offend anyone. I was wondering if you can help me figure out what this movie is that I am thinking of. It’s a much older one, and I thought this guy found this woman who he fell in love with and he didn’t know that she was his cousin or sister and then they make love and she ends up getting pregnant. That’s all I really remember about it, it’s very hard to remember everything that happened since it was years ago that I saw it. It wasn’t that movie “Cousin’s Cuisine” though either. My mom thought that might be it, but I looked it up and knew that wasn’t it. I think the movie was during the castle times. Anyway, I hope you will help me figure it out if you can please?

Nothing is coming off the top of my head. I think I need some more details. You said it’s an older movie – is it from the 70’s or the 80’s do you think? Was it filmed in English or is it a foreign-language film? Do you remember any of the actors or where it took place or anything like that?

I agree with what you said about Flowers in the Attic. The film adaptation certainly wasn’t true to the novel, though I can come up with plenty of reasons why they would cut the incest between the two elder siblings.
Thank you for trying to help. It wasn’t a foreign language film at all, and I don’t even remember any of the actors names. But, I think I remember the guy had blonde hair. That’s pretty much it lol. I wish they had not left out the incest part though in Flowers In The Attic, but oh well. I guess that’s what they do mostly or did back then. I think things are different now days more, but I am not really sure. Are they changing? I am not saying I like or agree with incest, but I did read what someone had said that sometimes you feel like they should be together or there is sexual tension. But, they are just actors pretending to be brother and sister. That’s what people should try to remember lol, don’t you think?

I do think things are changing a little. It seems to me that consensual incest storylines are a bit more common now than they were 20 years ago. Certainly on cable TV it is much more prevalent.
I like your idea about that futuristic invention that pulls memories out of our heads when we can’t remember something. I personally have the worst memory, so I could really use something like that.
Knowing that it isn’t a foreign-language film is helpful to me in narrowing it down, but I’m still not confident I’ll be able to figure out what the movie is. I do think your best chance is going through the lists on those websites for which I gave links.
Obviously I take an interest in films with brother/sister and cousin incest. I try to see them all. But after enough time, I really only remember the ones I liked enough to see again.
My best guesses for the movie you are looking for are The King and Lone Star.
Thank you for the guess about that movie. I will try to see if that one is the one. I even thought that one Angels and Insects might be it too. But, I will have to watch them to know if one of them is the one. So hopefully one of those are the one. I did use your links to try to find it too, and wrote down some names of movies, and I will probably go to the library to check them out first if they have them. Or if I have to, I will buy them on Amazon.com if they have them. Which I did look up Angels and Insects and of course they had that one on Amazon.com.
I also hope that in the future they just get images from people’s heads lol. Who knows, maybe that will be invented in more into the future just like flying cars. Which I guess they are already trying to invent flying cars. I don’t know how the flying cars will work though because of the airplanes, unless they make the flying cars fly below the airplanes. I really want you to find your movie! Unfortunately, the movies I’ve listed for you already are literally the ones I can think of where the brother and sister meet and don’t know that they’re brother and sister (or cousins) and they have a sexual relationship. Do you think it’s possible that you’re thinking of a TV show, because that seems to happen frequently on TV. I think there have been episodes of House and Private Practice where that has happened, and several other shows though I can’t remember off the top of my head. Angels and Insects, while a good movie, isn’t at all what you described.
Also, do you think it might have been an episode of Mystery!/Masterpiece Theater or one of those other made-for-TV movies that air on PBS? I know some of the British series of mysteries like the Inspector Lynley Mysteries have had storylines that dealt with incest. I remember one with James McAvoy where he was dating a girl and her father thought they were related and was against the relationship but didn’t tell them why. It turned out they weren’t related, though.
There’s also the movie Jude about two cousins who are in a relationship and it sort of destroys them. They know that they’re cousins, but they do have children.
Yeah, thanks for wanting to help me find the movie. Now I am wondering if it was an actual movie or just a TV movie like you said it could have been. I have never heard of the one Jude before. Who knows, maybe that could have been it. But, I really don’t know. I will have to look it up again I guess to see. I am not sure if I will be able to figure out what movie it was or if it was a TV movie, but it’s not the end of the world I’d say if I don’t. Thank you for trying to help me figure out what it is. I just don’t really know what to do about it because I don’t remember enough of what happened in it. You can still try to help if you want to, but I have almost given up on trying to find it. It most likely was a TV movie, or just one that was from so long ago that that’s why I can’t remember the name at all or what happened.

I love this website. I had seen a few episodes of The Middle and started liking Sue and Axl together, but I didn’t truly realize how good they were for each other until your post about them.
Also, is this the right place to recommend? You may or may not know the newspaper comic Foxtrot- well, I ship Peter/Paige, the two eldest siblings from the family of 5, ages 16 and 14. If you do know the comic, I apologize for the following exposition.
Peter reminds me of a slightly smarter (quite slightly) Axl but with far less athletic talent- poor thing loves sports but is always benched, especially during baseball, because he stinks. Paige is quite the typical teenage girl, obsessed with shopping and grossed out by her younger brother, Jason’s, pet iguana, but she has a cute side to her too- she has endless trouble finding guys to ask her to the dance, pursues many different fields such as writing and comics in her quest to be more grown up, and has dreams about the perfect man named Pierre sweeping her up and being romantic to her.
The comic is not ABOUT Peter and Paige- it’s more about the family unit. But there are some very cute scenes between them and an interesting dynamic. For example, Peter plays a mean prank on her involving a fake secret admirer but then feels bad and will do anything to make her forgive him, Peter takes Paige to prom when no other guy asks her, he protectively follows Paige and her date around during the next dance because he thinks her date is a slimy pervert. It’s not all on Peter’s side either. The everyday gimmicks of the comic speak volumes about their relationship- Paige borrows his clothes without asking (getting perfume on them and starting arguments), he drives her to the mall and carries her bags for her (making him exhausted and starting arguments), and they seem to get along splendidly when they are both plotting against their little brother Jason. Now, Peter does have a girlfriend, Denise, whom I really like, so I sometimes feel bad about shipping these two. But I really think they work so well together and are so cute together. I recommend them highly.

They do sound a little bit like Axl and Sue, but also different. Is her imaginary perfect man really named Pierre? Because that’s basically Peter in French. Ryan and Sharpay Evans from the High School Musical movies. I didn’t like the movies, but there is almost no way to watch them and not like them together. They are so in-sync and wonderful for each other, and they even sing a love song together.

I did a short entry on them after Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure came out, but no in-depth analysis of the first three movies. When I was first really obsessed with the two of them, the idea just seemed too overwhelming, because I had about a billion things to say about each of their scenes, LOL. It would have been a full length book.

Well I discovered your blog a couple weeks ago and figured that I should probably say something. I found it from your Queencest fic and have really enjoyed your Arrow episode write-ups and several other posts I’ve read.
I’ve always been a fan of non-canon pairings, not totally sure when that expanded to include incest pairings. Though I’ve never had to major aversion to incest that most people have, or had in your case, probably due to my only-child upbringing, though one of my younger cousins who was often mistaken for my sister being that we’re both ginger and I talked marriage at one time as kids.
I mean I’m not always an incest fan any pairing of the Weasley siblings just doesn’t do anything for me. I’m pretty sure I’m the only Luke/Leia Skywalker shipper in the world however. In general I think it might be that the doomed nature of such relationship appeals to my inner romantic side. Still they are becoming more common in video games, books and TV shows, as you say.
Anyways enough babbling about me. I’m glad to have found this group of fellow weirdoes as in some other fandom communities I’ve been apart of incest has been a very controversial issue, even with step/foster siblings.

I’ve always had non-canon leanings myself. I think it’s more that I ship the pairing that I like best, and it being canon or not canon just never really factors into it for me. I am always fascinated by the psychology behind shipping. It’s not something I’ve ever seen a study done on, or a paper written for. But there’s so much behind it, and I just find it so interesting.

I love that you ship Luke and Leia. I like Han and Leia a lot, so it’s hard for me to fully commit to shipping Luke and Leia, but I do ship them. I especially love the scene at the end of The Empire Strikes Back after she has rescued him, and they’re both in white, staring out the window. And of course I get excited when she’s wearing that bikini and she has to latch onto him and fly across the chasm on that rope. Basically, yeah, you’re not alone, I ship them, too. But I also ship Han and Leia, because I just have to.
It’s funny that the whole doomed thing appeals to you. I hate having a doomed ship. But knowing it’s doomed doesn’t put me against it, unfortunately.

Hello! This is wild. I never expected to stumble upon a burgeoning community of like-minded individuals in regards to interest in these taboo pairings. I have just recently realized that I am an incest shipper. It started with a “scholarly” fascination with the incest taboo and GSA. Though I have been reading fanfiction for years, I withheld myself from actively searching out incest fanfics, from a deep-seated caution instilled by my conservative upbringing. Yet my interest only grew, and recently I began to read incest-ship fanfics. From Harry Potter- Sirius/Bellatrix, Sirius/Narcissa, Sirius/Andromeda, Harry/Lily, Harry/Lily Luna. I LOVE Sirius/Bellatrix! An absolutely delicious and scalding HOT pairing. For me, incest pairings are less about exploring the taboo and more about putting two individuals together in a situation where there are inherent barriers, which only leads to greater sexual tension and, hopefully, greater fulfillment.
I have eagerly read all the previous comments and entries above. In response to those who bring up correlations with real life, I would say that I do not believe that an interest in incest lends to tendency towards practicing the same. I myself have two brothers who are, in my completely honest opinion, both well-formed, charismatic and very handsome. I have even realized that my personal notions of male attractiveness have been influenced by my brothers’ physical features: men with long hair, for example, as my brothers have, or bare (non-hairy) chests. Yet I have never had less than virtuous thoughts towards them, and to even think of it is repulsive. Though I do admit to nurturing attraction towards a few second-cousins (second cousins, far enough of a relation, wouldn’t you say?)- attraction that I like to think of but in real life would never act on.
I have found incest in literature as well (Jace/Clary in Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments’ first three installments, and Beatrice/Harry in Philippa Gregory’s Wideacre), and am eager to find more. I recently concluded both published books in Stephanie Dray’s trilogy on Cleopatra Selene, the daughter of Cleopatra and Antony- a MUST READ for brother-sister shippers. There are SEVERAL extremely gratifying encounters here between Selene and her twin (they are Ptolemies, after all). That was delicious and put me out of whack for a few days…I could barely function properly, as my thoughts were wrapped up in that pairing.
I came to this site having searched Seppius/Seppia. Thank you for the detailed descriptions of all their encounters and the many screenshots and GIFs. I remain extremely disappointed with the show for 1) not exploring the potential of this pairing, 2) killing of Seppius so quickly. This season has been a let-down and disappointment thus far, a far-cry from Blood and Sand and even Gods of the Arena. (No matter how hard I try, I cannot see Liam as truly being Spartacus.) It’s a mercy we had that small alcove scene between Seppius and Seppia- but it’s like a scrap of food thrown to us, in comparison with what it could have been. So there is already a prominent brother-sister pair in another popular TV show…so what?? What a waste! I can only hope that many Seppius/Seppia fanfics will be written to assuage our thirst. I am not a big fan of Seppia (annoying and overreaching child), but Seppius…he was deliciously handsome!
Speaking of Spartacus, I picked up the book by Howard Fast. I have just begun it, but already they have revealed that Caius, one of the main characters, is “excited” by his sister “in a fashion that [troubles] him.” I will let you know how that turns out and if it is truly worth reading! Personally, I found incest-shipping to be a slippery slope. I didn’t ship it all, and then I only shipped it sometimes, and now I ship it all the time. And at first I just liked it in some brother/sister relationships I came across, and then I began seeking out works in which it was canon, and then I started writing fanfic, and before you know it I’m running a blog, LOL. So I know exactly where you’re coming from.
I’m glad to hear you love Sirius and Bellatrix. Despite the great stories of the young Dumbledores and all the delightful moments between Ron and Ginny, Sirius and Bellatrix is really my favorite incest pairing (even if they’re only cousins) from the Harry Potter series. While reading the books I was always craving to hear more about when they were younger. I read some great fics, too.
EXACTLY. And very well put! I think inherent/internal barriers are what make the best ships. External obstacles are never as satisfying for me. And the stronger the force keeping two people apart, the more satisfying it is when they finally overcome that force.
As for what you brought up about the correlation/relationship between incest-shipping and real life incestuous interest, I agree completely. I don’t think there is any relation, though an incest-shipper is probably much more aware, in an intellectual sense, of the type of behavior that might be seen as suggestive if it were happening between a fictional brother/sister that one shipped. If you know what I mean. I also have a brother, so I understand exactly what you are saying. An incest-shipper enjoys the barrier/victory narrative at play with their incest ship – it really has nothing to do with what one wants or is feeling with regard to their own life.
It’s almost an unbelievable coincidence that you suggested a series about Cleopatra Selene, because while I was commuting this morning I spent a great deal of time just randomly testing myself about my knowledge of that period in Roman history. I’m a huge fan of the story of Octavian and Mark Antony and their children/grandchildren, though never as educated about it as I would like to be. I’ve been considering a rewatch of the TV series Rome, but I know I’ll have to do a thorough post here on Octavian/Octavia, so in deciding to watch it I also have to make a commitment to that – it’s the only reason it hasn’t happened already. I will have to check out that series ASAP. I’m already excited. Dynastic twincest? It doesn’t often get better than that.
I will forever be disappointed that we didn’t get more Seppius and Seppia. It was better than nothing, but it could have been something really special. They were truly wasted. I love that you described that scene in the alcove as a “scrap”, because that’s exactly what it feels like. I agree with this past season not being quite as good, and Liam not quite feeling like Spartacus. It’s unfortunate. I don’t see how I could love the final season since almost everyone I cared about is already dead.

There’s really not enough I can say to recommend Stephanie Dray’s Cleopatra’s Daughter series. The book covers do not do justice in the least to her exquisite writing. The story she weaves, I don’t think it will ever leave me. I am so moved and impacted by it that I have opened myself up to considering the possibilities of reincarnation, soul mates, and the feminine aspect of the divinity, the Goddess. Things to ponder on and seek the truth of… =)

Despite the fact that they were much younger, I found their dynamic more interesting for shipping, and I had all sorts of headfics going for when they got a bit older. But when I returned to the series and got invested in it again, I found myself appreciating Peter and Susan a lot more. I think my tastes had just expanded. I’ve seen the second and third installments in the movie series, and I’ve read the first and second book, but it has been a long time. I can really only speak confidently about the first movie. I really like the way Peter and Susan work together so well as a team. And I love the idea of them as being the responsible/practical ones, sort of pretend parents to the two younger ones. I feel like they have this great relationship where so much passes between unspoken, and there’s so much trust.
I always think of The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe as a Christmas-time movie, and I always watch the whole series together, so I’ve wanted to write about the Pevensies for a long time now, but there’s a very small window in which I would allow myself to dive into Narnia. I don’t know if I have time this month, so it may not be until another year. But Peter/Susan and Edmund/Lucy are two of my favorite incest ships ever. I’m just glad they’re so popular.

Peter/Susan just have so much lovely potential because just as you said, they are in effect “parents” to Edward and Lucy in Narnia, and to the land itself as High King and Queen; also, the description of their adult selves paints the suggestion of a most attractive couple- Peter, tall, strong, golden-haired, a magnificent warrior, to contrast and suit with Susan, a fair, dark-haired beauty, gentle and demure. Their being in Narnia, where their past life in England slowly becomes a hazy memory, and where there are no other humans in Narnia itself, does set itself up for lovely possibilities between the two eldest Pevensies. I’d love to read anything you write on Narnia!

I can’t believe that I spent so much time going on about Peter and Susan as parents that I didn’t even mention them as King and Queen. And I love the way you described their appearance. I do love the balance there so much. I’ve spent so much time thinking about that period when they’re all adults in Narnia. In the movie, it seems like they’re the only humans around, but I always remember from the book that it says that Susan had suitors and actually turned them all down. I always imagined that being her choosing Peter instead.

Yes, I was SO relieved to come online just now and see that it was up and running again. It’s a weight off my shoulders.
The header photo is from the movie Doom. My header used to be Jaime/Cersei from Game of Thrones – I thought having a popular incest ship from a popular TV show might promote interest. But the picture was verging on Not Safe For Work (as if the title of the website isn’t bad enough, LOL), and as much as I mention Jaime/Cersei I actually haven’t done an entry on them, so I changed it rather recently to John (Karl Urban) and Samantha Grimm from Doom. They do not have a canon incest relationship in the movie, but I have always found their relationship very compelling, and the end of the movie to be supportive. No matter how many movies and TV shows I’ve seen with brother/sister relationships, theirs always remains one of my absolute favorites. I did write a post about Doom, it’s here, if you’re interested.

As for The Boy Who Cried Wolf, it’s actually The Boy Who Cried Werewolf – my mistake. It’s a definitely cheesy made-for-tv movie that aired on Nickelodeon, but it fit your criteria better than any of the others I listed.

Another extremely late reply on the same day? Ok you caught me, I admit it, I am Jimmy and also Sam (though neither is my real name, that you’ll never know *evil-villain laugh*). Yeah I get paranoid that people will find out my odd obsessions with brother-sister relationships haha. In The Perks of Being A Wallflower I actually meant the main character and his blood-sister; I thought it was nice that she was the one he called when he was at his lowest point, she was the one who he admitted the guilt he was carrying around the circumstances of his aunts death, and she did save his life by getting the police there and all.
Dazed and Confused is a classic, one of the greatest and most well-known coming-of-age films. Definitely watch it.
The Color Wheel is a small budget black and white indie film; but don’t let that put you off it’s a thoroughly enjoyable film. It follows a brother and sister on a road trip of sorts, there isn’t much of a plot; it’s much more a character-driven film. The acting is fantastic; it’s really believable that they are siblings, I’d even say they did the most believable sibling acting I’ve ever seen. The dialogue was witty and amusing, and there’s a (very nice) surprise twist (well not so much a twist since it seems it’s all been build to it) at the end. All round a very underrated film.
Don’t worry about using a pseudonym, I don’t think most of us are very out in the open about this kind of thing.
It has been a long time so I don’t really remember our exchange about Perks of Being A Wallflower, but I had forgotten the relationship between Logan Lerman’s character and his sister, which is surprising, because I’m a huge Nina Dobrev fan. I wish we had seen more between them, but there were a few significant moments, if I recall. And it was a big deal that he called her when he was having his breakdown. The thing I remember most is that after he’d only said a few words on the phone she knew exactly what was happening.

Anyway i just finished watching ‘Deadfall’ which i would recommend; it’s a good film and there’s a interesting brother-sister relationship between Olivia Wilde and ‘that actor who for some reason i always mistake for Clive Owen(Eric Bana)’.
Have you watched House at the End of the Street yet? In a way it’s disappointing that his sister is actually dead. If it had all been as it seemed – he was taking care of his brain-damaged sister and wanted to keep her with him rather than turning her over to an institution because she was dangerous – that would have been really sweet. But I find the way it turned out to be – that he was so obsessed with her that he kidnaps girls to replace her, etc. to be even better.
Jennifer Lawrence always mentions her brothers a lot, which I think is cool. Someone else recommended Deadfall to me not too long ago and I watched it right away. I’m always grateful for recommendations – that movie in particular would have escaped my attention entirely if no one had mentioned it to me. I was quite hopeful for that movie and enjoyed the first half a lot. It was quite disappointing the way the relationship deteriorated towards the end. Hi there, I’m so glad I found this blog; I always knew I couldn’t be the only one who does this.. I plan on spending the next couple of hours scanning over your index and tumblr(I’ve never actually used tumblr before so your responsible for taking my tumblr virginity lol) for films or tv shows I have not yet watched. I have a few questions, but I’d also like to share why I find this subject so incredibly appealing. Sorry if I ramble too much; this is pretty much the first time I’ve been able to talk about this so I’m pretty excited to share my story and then ask a few questions. *after reading over all this I really didn’t mean to type so much, sorry for that.. also I seem to come off kind of creepy (what with all the talk of porn and whatnot), I don’t really have a great way with words so I was just being frank.
I’ve found brother-sister coupling and relationships fascinating for around 5 years now (wow I didn’t realize it’s been that long).. My obsession sort of started in an odd way; when I was in my early teens I had just discovered porn (ironically by finding a porn site my brother left open on the family computer); I would watch a couple of times a week (mostly just out of interest.. I never really masturbated to porn for the first few months of my discovering it(sorry if my story is a bit lewd)). I was amazed at the amount of vague and odd fetishes that seemed to have huge followings, though one [incest] struck me as particularly odd; mainly due to the fact it seemed to be one of the more popular fetishes.
From then on the only porn I would watch would be incest porn (yeah the vast majority was terrible acted but I did find a few gems that I’ve saved the links to and watch every now and then). I found the majority of dad-daughter stuff to have too much of a ‘rapey’ feel to it (though there were a few exceptions), the mother-son stuff didn’t really appeal to me since, being a young female, I couldn’t really relate to it (no pun intended) and cousins/aunts etc. just didn’t seem taboo enough.
But brothers and sisters…so hot. Also I was wondering what you thought of real life actor siblings? I also love hearing about other’s (friends, strangers I may chat to while out, or people online) relationships with their opposite sex siblings, if they get on well etc. Obviously in person I couldn’t get away with asking the other things I’d want e.g. If they ever fooled around or ‘played doctor’ or more.
The impression I got from your ‘about me’ part seems to be you aren’t interested in incest with your own brother, but you also don’t see a problem with consentual incest. Which is similar to my views, I really think it’s unfair that incest is so demonized when it really isn’t a problem so long as it’s consentual, not a kid and a parent (an adult and their parent should be fine though, even though it seems a bit odd to me), and all precautions are taken to avoid pregnancies. A lot of the points (unnatural/wrong/against god etc.) are very similar to the points in arguments about homosexual relationships, or (several decades ago) interracial relationships. Basically if it’s not hurting anyone it’s nobody else’s business, people should be able to love who they want.
I am the middle child, with one brother 3 years older and one 4 years younger, I’m comfortable saying I think they are both very attractive though in very different ways to each other. I actually always thought this about them. Not just physically attractive but they are (most of the time) kind and caring people. My little brother is in his mid teens and is a real cute kid, very shy and introverted but a great smile and sense of humor. My older brother is a personal trainer, so he’s really built, he’s tall too and very handsome, he’s always been very confident and charming and very much a ladies man.
I’ve never done anything sexual (not really anyway) with them and it’s very unlikely I ever will.. but mostly not because I’m opposed to the concept, more so that I wouldn’t want to risk damaging the great relationships we have at the moment. Sure there have been a few minor instances such as kissing. Then there’s the fact that my older brother is shameless when it comes to things like nudity/sex-talk/or just sex in general. Just this Christmas he was staying over for the holidays and one night I went downstairs to get a drink, walked in on him and a girl he’d brought back from a party or something; both completely naked and going at it on our living room couch (with the whole family home). I confess I watched for a while, admittedly somewhat jealous , until he noticed me and I ran back to my room.
That kind of thing was pretty typical behavior from my elder brother…also he’d be naked ALOT of the time, skinny-dipping in our pool everyday in summer (I got the nerve to join him a few times, but always in my bikini, I was always curious what his reaction might be if I jumped in naked, maybe I’ll try that one day lol (incidentally my younger(usually shy) brother has taken up skinny dipping so I’ll have to keep myself restrained lol).
I have often fantasized being with them (mostly my older brother, though recently I’ve noticed my younger one more), and sometimes pretend it’s one of them while I’m with my on-again off-again boyfriend (he is 2 years older and works out a lot, as such has a similar body type to my older brother).

Porn aimed towards an incest kink is plentiful but I had never considered that you might call it one of the more popular kinks. I don’t really enjoy porn generally but I’ve seen enough to share your opinions. I’ve always been more interested in what I call the “love story” aspect of incest with sex just being one part of that, which is why I don’t really consider erotica or porn to be my area of expertise, but suffice it to say I know exactly what you’re talking about and my situation is pretty similar. My Donnie Darko tag is here. If you haven’t read that article it should only be a couple of posts from the top. I hadn’t heard that he was related to anyone else in the cast. I’m not sure if that’s true. His love interest is played by Jena Malone and I don’t think they’re cousins. But I love seeing actors who are related in the same movie.
For the movie Dioses (which I wrote a long long long post about here on the wordpress), I watched some interviews with the actors, and the interviews were in Spanish which I am NOT an expert at, but I was able to follow the conversation a little bit, and the interviewer asked both actors directly whether they had ever had any incestuous feelings towards their real life siblings. I couldn’t believe it! They were both really embarrassed, obviously. I considered that pretty rude but I was definitely amused at the same time.
I’m also always fascinated by hearing about or observing people’s relationships with their opposite sex siblings. But I think part of that is because I consider myself a writer (even though I don’t write that much, LOL), and a lot of that writing has to do with incest, so I’m always concerned with what’s realistic and what’s normal and what’s abnormal. What would universally be considered suggestive, and what’s perfectly innocent. And how those things vary from household to household. I think most people who aggressively oppose incest simply find it disgusting (which is not a reaction I blame them for at all, for lots of reasons), and they try to turn that disgust into some argument about morality or natural vs. unnatural, but at its base it’s still just an opinion, and that shows.
Then some oppose it because of reproductive issues, and others because incest, depending upon the situation, can be damaging to the integrity of the family. Those are some of the challenges of incest but I don’t think they’re good reasons for outlawing it.
But I think the other main area of opposition is the question of consent. Some people believe that it’s impossible for there to be consent from both parties in an incestuous relationship, that there’s always some sort of power imbalance. Some people are just utterly convinced of this. I disagree completely, but it’s a much harder topic to argue. I mean, there are power imbalances in every relationship. Well, I won’t write an essay, LOL. I’ll leave it there. A lot of the people who hold this view have been abused sexually by relatives so it’s a very sensitive issue.
I don’t mind answering your questions but I hope you won’t be disappointed to hear that I honestly don’t feel attracted to my brother. He’s in his early 20’s now (I’m in my late 20’s – wow, I’m getting old). Objectively I do think he’s good looking (when he’s got the right hair cut), but I think most people would agree. We get along really well but we’re not that close. When he’s away at school I barely ever talk to him but when we’re around each other we barely even need to talk because we usually think the same or feel the same way about things. Although personality-wise we’re also very different. He’s very social, I’m extremely introverted. Etc. I’ve thought a lot about whether I would be jealous if he ever had a serious girlfriend, but all I can think is that I can’t wait for him to get married and have children so that our family will be bigger. I just hope I like her, LOL. I do think I’d be pretty pleased if I ever found out he was attracted to me but that’s just my own vanity. Even if he confessed to being in love with me I don’t think I can imagine wanting to reciprocate. I see him almost like an extension of myself.

Hi there, I’ve recently stumbled upon your blog and I have already spent quite a lot of time reading your very interesting thoughts regarding incest pairings in fiction. It’s nice to know there are quite a lot of other people out there who share my, erm, unusual interests. I can totally relate (pun not intended) to your appreciation of the simplicity and purity of the idea of a brother and sister
being together. Somehow it just seems so…perfect. I also like the fact that such a relationship sets the characters involved apart from the rest of society in some way. Elevates them. It’s taboo, yes, but society can go to hell. Perhaps my somewhat weird love for the concept of übermenschen who rise above the muddy waters of mediocrity and create what they want for themselves has something to do with this. (And my love for THAT concept probably comes from one of my less-than-stellar character traits, I have a tendency to feel superior to other people…)
I’ve been fascinated/obsessed with brother-sister relationships for about 1 – 2 years now. I think it started with reading A Song of Ice and Fire and being intrigued by the Jaime/Cersei relationship. At its core it’s a fairly tragic story (and oh boy am I a sucker for tragedy). Twins coming into this world together, having only the other to truly rely on with a harsh and cruel father and (after Tyrion’s birth) a dead mother. And then, there’s a terrible war, leading to the disgrace of Jaime and Cersei’s marriage to a drunk and abusive whoremonger. But amidst all of their troubles, they still find consolation in each other’s arms… Of course, the reveals regarding Cersei’s sociopathic tendencies undermine the beauty of this tragedy quite a bit, painting (somewhat uncharacteristically for ASoIaF) her as a clear villain and Jaime as a ‘victim’ of his sweet sister’s manipulations. Despite the gray morality of the series, sadly, incest is still clearly something for villains (or leads to madness and ruin, as shown by the Doom of Valyria and the fall of the Targaryens).
Shortly after becoming a fan of ASoIaF I began to read lots of gothic stories. Intense sibling relationships are a staple of the genre. I absolutely adored ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ (Poe) about sickly twins Roderick and Madeline Usher, born in a family ‘of which the family tree does not branch’. My all-time favourite gothic tale is ‘Manfred’, by Lord Byron, however. It’s about the eponymous Manfred, a mighty wizard/übermensch who can bind extremely powerful spirits to his will but is unable to attain what he truly wishes for: oblivion, forgetfulness and release from the pain of losing his most beloved Astarte, who is strongly hinted to have been his (twin?) sister.
Interestingly, Byron wrote this tale shortly after fleeing England, where he had become the subject of many ‘unsavory’ rumours, including one about a supposedly incestuous relationship with his half-sister, Augusta Leigh. Looking at some of their (now published) correspondence, the
rumours don’t seem to be all that unlikely… (Or maybe that’s just twisted and sick me? Still, comparing yourself to doomed lovers in Dante’s inferno…)
At this point my love for this particular concept had gripped me completely. I read ‘Forbidden’ by Tabitha Suzuma, a incredibly beautiful novel that nearly brought me to tears when I finished it. It’s about the forbidden love between two siblings, Lochan (17) and Maya (16) who have
been forced to grow up early and take care of their three younger siblings due to their father leaving and their mother being a borderline alocholic who is never there for them. It’s a very touching story, and one of the few I know where the incest is portrayed 100% sympathetically.
Searching for even more stories about this subject, I stumbled across QUITE a lot of manga and manhwa. ‘Hitsuji no Uta’ (Lament of the Lamb), by the wonderful Kei Toume, is one of my favourites.
In this manga, Kazuna Takashiro is a young high-school student (it’s manga, no surprises there…) who discovers he is afflicted by a rare hereditary disease which causes him to have violent episodes where he starts craving human blood, somewhat like a vampire. The episodes take a very big toll on him, both mentally and physically. He is not alone, however. His older sister, Chizuna, shares his fate. While Kazuna has only recently begun to show symptoms, she has had to live with the disease her whole life. At the beginning of the story, they meet again after having been separated since they were very young children. Their mother died because of the disease and their father, at the time thinking that Kazuna had been lucky and was not afflicted, decided to leave Kazuna in the care of a friend of his and his wife, while devoting all of his time to
sickly Chizuna. Right before the story begins, he commits suicide. The reason why is slowly revealed throughout the story. When Kazuna’s symptoms become worse, he and Chizuna decide to live together on the fringe of society, not wanting to be a danger to those around them. (I suck at writing Synopses, sorry)
It’s a very, very, very, very depressing manga. The siblings know madness and death awaits them, and still they decide (though sometimes for VERY twisted reasons) to keep on living. Their relationship is fascinating. At first Chizuna intends to ‘use’ Kazuna as a sort of replacement for their father (with whom she had a VERY unhealthy love/hate emotional relationship), but grows disgusted by this notion after a while. Meanwhile, Kazuna is torn between his old, normal life
he has to leave behind and the new, closed-off world he inhabits with his sister. I won’t spoil much, but it’s an incredibly intense bond they share, and yes, it’s even slightly physical (they kiss twice). My only point of criticism for this incredible manga series is the final chapter. It’s, for lack of a better word, stupid. Emotionally void and unfulfilling. I consider the penultimate chapter to be the perfect finale, and whenever I reread the story I never read the final chapter. There’s a (very low-budget) anime adaptation of this manga which seemingly agrees with me on this.
Another favourite of mine is ‘The Flower of Evil’, a manhwa by Lee Hyeon-Sook which tackles the brother-sister romance subject very directly. It portrays the twisted bond between twins Se-joon and Se-wa. This is a series about the dark sides of extreme love, their obsessive connection causing them to hurt one another both directly and indirectly. Interestingly, while the story clearly depicts the hurt they cause one another, the art tends to evoke an image of purity. Their incestuous love is pure and good and beautiful. It’s a fantastic contrast.
I’m sorry for my rambling about my favourite incest stories. That was…longer than I suspected it would be. Anyway, I don’t have any siblings close in age, so I really don’t know what to say about that. When I was a young child I used to be good friends with one of my first cousins who is three years older than me, but we rarely see each other nowadays. She’s a nice girl (well…woman) and we get along, but we simply seem to have grown apart.
Interestingly, I’ve only discovered recently (on the internet) that many people in Anglo-Saxon countries tend to react with disgust to first cousin relationships. I live in Belgium and while some certainly consider it to be somewhat odd, it’s really not that big of a deal here. I remember a biology class a couple of years ago where a girl casually told everybody her parents were cousins. Aside from one good-natured joke, the reactions mostly boiled down to “Oh, cool…”.
I don’t think the concept of sibling incest in real life is immoral, but sadly in the majority of all cases it’s probably not a loving relationship, but sexual abuse. Which is horrible and awful and disgusting, of course. Still, I’ve read some real life testimonies about people in a loving, consensual relationship with a sibling (which I have no way to verify, of course) and if they’re happy with each other, that’s lovely. Alright, it’s even more than ‘lovely’, it’s awesome.
People finding true love in life is awesome. I could go on about my opinion regarding this subject for quite a long time, but I feel like I have typed wayyyy too much already 🙂

I’m so glad you found your way here. All my commentaries are rather silly, really, but I hope, at the very least, you enjoy some sense of community with other incest shippers. I like to think I can provide that, if nothing else.
I know what you mean about incest setting the characters apart from society. I hadn’t realized it, but I think I do enjoy that aspect as well, certainly in many of the cases. I guess I do think about the incest as setting them apart from – and in my eyes, at least, as a fan or author – above the others. Like they’re operating on this whole other level, and everything about the relationship is more intense for them compared to parallel non-incestuous relationships.
I always love hearing about the gateway incest ship. I’m not surprised that Jaime/Cersei is what drew you in, though I share your disappointment in what that relationship has become. Jaime’s unrealistic expectations in A Storm of Swords made Cersei look uncaring towards him, and now he’s so furious with her (though still obsessed, clearly) that it’s become very ugly between them. I do miss the Jaime and Cersei of the first three episodes of Game of Thrones, especially the Jaime whose only morality was whatever it took to be with Cersei.
I think I’ve mistaken GRRM. I assumed he was sympathetic towards incest, but I think he just has a fascination with it, and doesn’t feel any particular need to champion it.
I didn’t realize that the incest in The Fall of the House of Usher was canon. That line about the family tree not branching isn’t very ambiguous, unless it simply means that not many children were born/survived. Sadly I’m more of a watcher than a reader, so I haven’t read “The Fall of the House of Usher”, but I’ve seen a modernized film version, in which the incest was canonically depicted (between every generation of the family, including Roderick and Madeline), but I thought that was a departure from the text.
That’s a fascinating piece of information about Manfred (and Lord Byron!). I wasn’t familiar with it, or the possibility that Astarte might have been his sister. I hadn’t thought too much about the gothic genre, but I guess there’s a insularity to it, a cloistering effect the writers attempt to achieve, which explains the intense sibling relationships. I’ll have to keep that in mind when considering what to watch/read in the future.
It’s always hard to tell with older works and letters like that. Nowadays I really don’t think any brother and sister would compare their relationship to a romantic relationship in any way, but I feel like people’s minds weren’t in the gutter so much back then.

It has been on my list of things to read for a while now and I’ve finally found myself in a situation with a lot more time for reading, so I decided I was overdue to read it. I think you’re probably right that it’s a bigger deal here, though I’ve seen plenty of movies featuring incest from around the globe and the reactions from the other characters in the film always seemed about the same to me.
On tumblr I regularly go through a few tags that involve incest, and while most of the non-fandom related mentions are abuse, I’ve still seen plenty of testimonies of consensual relationships. Like you said, it’s not like I can verify that information, but I’m sure they’re not all lies.

Your commentaries aren’t silly at all! I love reading them. I really like how you’re obviously very passionate about the relationships portrayed in the pieces of fiction you discuss. I sometimes feel that nowadays, ‘not-being-moved-by-anything’ is extolled as a great virtue. It’s good to see that there are still many people who are in love with the beauty of fiction. (It’s even better to see that there are many people who share certain unusual aspects of my definition of beauty.)
Intense relationships in general have always been something I liked in fiction. Somehow I feel as if the idea of focussing your reality and your morality on the happiness of one other person is the closest you can get to an actual sort of (illusory?) meaning of life. The concept just seems so beautiful. (Of course, actually doing this in real life is probably not all that healthy, psychologically speaking) As you said, sibling relationships are more intense, operate on another level compared to other non-incestuous relationships. Perhaps I made that connection in my head when I first read about Jaime & Cersei.
There are many reasons as to why the current situation between Jaime & Cersei is rather ugly, but I think the biggest problem is the fact that for some reason GRRM really really wanted to turn Cersei into an outright villain while whitewashing everything Jaime did. Cersei is a sociopath who killed her best friend when she was but a child. Cersei orders Qyburn to perform horrible experiments on people. Cersei “has been fucking Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and probably Moon Boy for all I know”. Cersei is stupid and is hoist by her own petard when she tries to deal with The High Sparrow. (Side note; I absolutely hate this guy. Extremely sexist, blindly zealous,… I’d rather have a corrupt church than a retardedly fanatical one. Religion seemed like the one
thing in Westeros people didn’t really fight over ever since the Targaryens showed the Faith what they thought of their ‘no-incest’ rule and disarmed them, but now that peace is ruined again.)
And Jaime? Oh well once he learns about justice and about true beauty (which lies within, as shown by Brienne AKA ‘the aesop that rides’) and about how his sister is unfaithful and only loves him when he’s useful to her, it’s character development time! Hah, you thought he was a cocky, evil bastard? Nah, he’s a complex, tortured soul who was manipulated by his ‘beloved’ sister.
Cersei is pretty much even worse than what you thought about her at first, though. No redemption or ambiguous morality for that one.
Of course, this is a gross simplification and maybe I sound a little bitter, but this is by far my least favourite part about ASoIaF. I really want to believe that Jaime was Cersei’s one true love, but everything that has happened/has been revealed since ASoS seems to disprove that notion. Cersei is a lot more sympathetic in the TV version though, so I’m curious how they will handle
all of this in the coming seasons.
Random thought about the TV show, there is one scene I really like. It wasn’t in the book, I think. It’s a scene where Tyrion & Cersei are talking about Joffrey. Cersei wonders if his
psychopathic behaviour is the ‘price for her and Jaime’s sins’. Tyrion reacts with a questioning ‘Sins…?’, seemingly baffled that an incestuous relationship would be considered something
sinful. I loved that reaction so much. Why is there even an incest taboo in Westeros? You have been ruled by Targaryens for 300 years! Somebody on an ASoIaF forum once jokingly wrote a
very awkward conversation between Mad King Aerys and Tywin based on the premise that Tywin discovered the incestuous relationship between his children. (‘What?! Incest is disgusting!…except
for when you do it, Your Grace…”) IIRC, in real life there were quite a lot of brother-sister marriages amongst commoners in Egypt during Roman times, the practice having trickled down from the pharaohs, the (former) elites of their society.
The nature of the relationship between Roderick and Madeline in the original ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ isn’t outright stated, but an incestuous nature is implied. I’ve always interpreted the line about a non-branching family tree to be about incest, but I know there are many people who think differently. Still, if you want 100% canon incestuous relationships between characters in Poe’s work, there’s no shortage of them, mostly of the ‘cousins-but-raised-as-siblings’ variety. In ‘Eleonora’, for example, the narrator falls in love with his cousin with whom he was raised together
by her mother (his aunt). Poe married his cousin Virginia Poe in real life, which probably has something to do with the recurrence of this theme in his works.
While I agree that people’s minds are much more ‘in the gutters’ nowadays (God I can’t watch Lord of The Rings with other people without somebody sniggering whenever there’s a touching moment between Frodo and Sam…), the comparison Byron makes in his letter is still highly suggestive. He’s not comparing their bond to any random romantic relationship, but specifically to an adulterous, sinful one. (Quote: “It is heart-breaking to think of our long Separation—and I am sure more than punishment enough for all our sins—Dante is more humane in his “Hell” for he
places his unfortunate lovers (Francesca of Rimini & Paolo whose case fell a good deal short of ours—though sufficiently naughty) in company—and though they suffer—it is at least together.”)

In regards to your dislike of manga and/or comics, ah, well, everybody has his medium he or she likes/dislikes. I’m more of a reader than a watcher. This doesn’t mean I can’t immensely enjoy a good film. ‘The House of Yes’, which has already been discussed on this blog, is the only film I ever watched twice in a row. I think it’s brilliant.

Chapter 200 & 201 of the very dark and twisted fantasy manga ‘Berserk’ show the backstory of two important characters: Serpico & Farnese. They’re half-siblings, but Farnese is unaware of their blood connection. The two chapters together are only 44 pages long and you can read them without really knowing anything else about Berserk’s story. Those two chapters are probably my favourite ones of all the manga I have ever read)
It seems I’ve forgotten two types of media when discussing my favourite incest-related artworks; video games and music. The most incest-laden video game series of all time (Fire Emblem)
has already been mentioned on this blog, so I won’t do it again. Nowadays, I occassionally play a game called Crusader Kings II. It’s a strategic sandbox game in which you play as a count, duke,
king or emperor during the middle ages and use, well, whatever (despicable) method you can to increase your power (political marriages, murder, mass slaughter,…). There’s even a great, extremely-well researched mod where you can play in the world of ASoIaF.
While the initial focus of the games was on christian rulers in Europe, since the initial release
there have been many expansions enabling playing a muslims, pagans and most importantly, zoroastrians. The Zoroastrian religion is immensely popular amonst the fanbase of this game.
Why, you ask?
Because of incest.
They have a gameplay mechanic where you can marry close kin (mostly siblings, but parents & their (adult) children is also possible, though I never do that…) in a holy marriage (Xwedodah) which gives an opinion boost to vassals of the same religion (and a malus to everyone else :p ). It’s based on certain real-life Zoroastrian texts, in which incest is declared to be one of the most pious, glorious, holy things ever. (The few remaining Zoroastrians nowadays deny any connection to the practice)
It’s funny how much the community is really obsessed with sibling marriages (to be fair, it makes certain parts of the game much easier). Recently, another large update to the game introduced
playable Indian rulers, Buddhism, Hinduism,… What was the fanbase’s initial reaction? A 13-page thread about one tiny sect that was also added to the game: Messalianism, a Nestorian heresy
allowing close-kin marriages (and gender equality regarding succession and priesthood. Feminism and incest, I like the community so much). Expect such threads to be full of classic incest jokes,
serious discussions about how often you need to add new blood to prevent negative inbred traits and shooing away the lone souls who think it’s sick by (correctly) stating that it’s pretty
hypocritical to condone all the atrocities you can commit in the game and then flinch at the mention of some family friendly fun. I believe I once saw an old thread about in-game Zoroastrians that went completely off-topic and turned into a serious, mature discussion about whether it should be legal in real life to allow incestuous couples to have children.
And come on, what’s more adorable than marrying twins and discovering several years later they have the ‘lovers’ opinion bonus towards each other? (Loveless marriages are pretty much the norm in this game, as was the case in history)
In regards to music, there are some (mostly rather gruesome) folk ballads dealing with incest, but modern songs about sibling relations (in a not-too negative light) are pretty rare. I like ‘Don’t Stop Swaying’ by Sophie B. Hawkins and ‘The Kick Inside’ by the wonderful Kate Bush quite a lot. Also, I am utterly convinced that ‘Butterflies’ by Sia is about siblings (because of the last line: “Because we came from the same cocoon).

I agree that we live in a culture – especially online – where it’s considered unintellectual to love something wholeheartedly. It’s like you said – as if there’s a virtue in not being impressed, not being shocked, not being offended. You’re not the first person to tell me that one of things they enjoyed about my entries was my enthusiasm, and it’s very rewarding to hear that. I always think excitement begets excitement, so I’m always for it, although I do think of myself as being a realist when it comes to expectations.
It’s very interesting what you said about another person’s happiness being your meaning of life. As an extremely independent person I always get very annoyed at codependent relationships, but when it comes to family I feel differently. And especially when it comes to incest shipping. I usually don’t have a lot of respect for characters who are out of control when it comes to their emotions and their relationships, but there’s something about all-consuming incestuous love that just really floats my boat.
I really enjoyed your rant about Jaime and Cersei because I agree completely. In some ways I think the fandom has gone a lot farther with the idea of Jaime’s redemption than GRRM ever did, but the seeds of a divergence are definitely there in the text and it makes me no happier than it does you. I admired the ambitious, scheming Cersei, but the more she is revealed as incompetent and destructive the less I feel like she is the character that I originally loved.
The situation with Jaime is even worse. While it remains clear that he is obsessed with Cersei and he is distraught over what he sees as her betrayal, he no longer seems to be the man that pushed Bran out of the window. I don’t want redemption for him, I just want golden Lannister twins doing anything and everything to be together. I love that GRRM doesn’t write black and white but I wish he would add a little bit more white to his dark grey and a little bit more black to his light grey.
I don’t blame you for being bitter because I am too. I loved Jaime and Cersei so much at first but they’re just not the same Jaime and Cersei that I first fell in love with. And the fandom is making it worse. And I’m glad the show is so successful, but the problem with having so many “regular” people in the fandom is that the writers might start appealing to them and their mainstream tastes.
I like your interpretation of that Tyrion and Cersei scene. I interpreted it differently – I assumed Tyrion was trying to elicit some sort of confession out of her. But I like your interpretation much better.
I’m actually glad there is an incest taboo in Westeros because I enjoy the forbidden aspect. Shipping, for me, has always been about the couple overcoming all of the obstacles keeping them apart. And I have always preferred the internal obstacles rather than Romeo and Juliet type circumstances. One of the things that appeals to me most about incest shipping is that the characters feel like its wrong, which keeps them from acting on – and sometimes from even realizing – their feelings. Trying to keep their relationship secret is more of an external obstacle, but that’s two obstacles for the price of one!
I hadn’t heard about brother/sister marriages among commoners in Egypt but that is really interesting to me. I find the question of the Westermarck Effect (internal psychological aversion) vs. the pressure of societal norms to be endlessly interesting. What is it really that’s keeping the incest in check?
Incest among cousins raised as siblings is a bountiful treasure in 19th century literature. That was one of my favorite things about Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. Thank you for the crash course in Poe and Lord Byron!
I’m amazed you mentioned Sam and Frodo because that is the example I *always* think of. I had to look back at my comment to check and see if I had mentioned them because it seemed like quite a coincidence, but I guess great minds just think alike. And speaking of thinking alike, I’m almost done with Forbidden. I have enjoyed it so much. I can’t believe I waited so long to read it. I’m a little wary of how it might end, but in any case the way Lochan and Maya’s feeling have been portrayed give me no reason to worry that they’ll “get over it”. The only thing that has bugged is the way Maya insists that she and Lochan aren’t like brother and sister. Like the fact that she has incestuous feelings towards Lochan but is disgusted by the thought with her younger brother makes it so that she and Lochan aren’t really like brother and sister.
The House Of Yes is brilliant! I was the same way. The first time I saw it I think I watched it every day that week. I pretty much never do that.

When I hear Zoroastrianism the first thing I think of is incest, but I’m glad for some of the extra details you provided. In school I read a book in French written in the 1700’s that involves a Zoroastrian character who has a wife and then decides to embrace his Zoroastrian heritage and his love for his sister and run off with his sister. As an incest-shipper I thought it was really a hilarious coincidence that I had to read that book for my class. Though the Zoroastrian bit was just an anecdote that made up a short passage.
I have the song Butteflies by Sia in my music collection. I’m not the type of person who really listens to the lyrics. It’s funny because typically I’m a verbal learner and I love singing (I sing in my church choir), but when it comes to music I tend to just hear the beat and melody. Now that I’ve looked at the lyrics for that song I see that an incest interpretation is totally valid. I love it, because I like that song a lot. It would be great for an incest fanvid. Like with graphic novels/comics/manga, my mind has trouble consuming lyrics and poems. I’m making myself sound stupid, but I think it’s more a question of laziness. I’ve just never found that decoding lyrics or poems were worth the effort it took. But some people love the challenge. I’ve always felt it relies too much on universal symbolism that isn’t actually universal. I remember studying poetry in class one time, and the teacher was trying to help us by pointing out one of the key words. I think it was “sun”, and she was listing things that the sun meant and all the implications for the meaning of the poem and none of the things she had listed had occurred to me, and in some cases I was actually thinking all of the opposite things. It made me feel pretty helpless where poetry was concerned and I’ve steered clear since then. I like straightforward poetry and literary devices and beautiful language, though.
I know “Don’t Stop Swaying” but I’m unfamiliar with the Kate Bush song, so I’ll have to check that.

It’s really cool to have someone so willing to calmly discuss such a controversial theme. Taboo it may be, but like you’ve said, that only adds to the excitement.
I’d like to talk about Violet and Dash Parr from Disney/Pixar’s The Incredibles. The movie is, of course, awesome and full of great moments, clever writing and brilliant animation. One thing that always irked me, though, is that there isn’t that much focus on how the relationship between these two evolves. They start out as insecure, frustrated misfits who aren’t allowed to use their superpowers and vent their feelings by arguing and fighting. However, they then undergo a life-changing adventure in which they can both finally realize their potential, and they save each other’s lives more than once. Surely we could have had another short scene or two towards the end where we’d see greater love and appreciation for each other? The film does seem to aim for messages about improving family bonds, after all!
Plus, I never really “brought” the Tony Rydinger thing. (I was in my early teens when I first saw it, and a bit of an awkward social outcast myself, so the whole “girl + guy who she barely really knows, but happens to be handsome and popular = happy ending” thing just didn’t cut it for me. I never admitted it out loud, but the dissatisfaction has always been there.)
And yes, in later years, after discovering shipping and becoming guiltily fascinated by the concept of sibling romance, I looked back at Violet and Dash and, well, one thing led to another. Fanfics going into it – or even just a “pure” sibling bond – are VERY rare. To my frustration, the vast majority of stories I’ve run into go the same old route of the siblings’ fights remaining as bad as ever and Violet rather callously abandoning her family to run off with some rebellious, edgy OC (or someone along those lines). One day I decided I’d had it, and wrote my own story on DeviantArt in which Violet and Tony have broken up, and Dash is there to help his sister through her distress, with some subtle hints of deeper feelings waiting to emerge. I’ve discussed my deepest ideas about it with a couple of trusted friends, but am still nervous about revealing them to DArt as a whole.

I am so happy about this comment! I think it’s wonderful that you found your way here. Dash and Violet is definitely a rare pairing, even in the incest shipping world, but those delight me the most. I always love hearing from someone who saw something more there, or the potential for something more.
I agree with you completely about Tony. The whole popular/charming/good-looking guy who just happens to like awkward/shy/unpopular girl back has always been a little ridiculous. They have to at least show some build-up and reasoning why in order for it to make sense, and that’s just not within the scope of this movie. It comes off like a fantasy.
I also would have appreciated a few more scenes dedicated to Dash and Violet’s relationship, especially something at the end to show how much they had bonded and how much their relationship had grown.

I recently saw Incredibles 2, which once again delivered brilliantly in terms of animation, action and clever dialogue, but also neglected to explore or develop the relationship between our Super siblings. Which is a pity, considering how long we all awaited this new movie and the uncertainly of whether or not we’ll get another one and when. I had a chance of see Incredibles 2. A great movie and lots of good Violet/Dash movies although I understand what you are saying about it not really exploring or developing the relationship between Violet and Dash. It was plot-heavy and focused more on the kids coming into their own as heroes and Violet’s relationship with her father.
I am familiar with Rick and Morty and watch it regularly, but this list of the most suggestive moments between Morty and Summer is really good to have. Thank you! I’m always pleasantly surprised by their relationship.

Yes, I do still check this blog although I am much more active on my tumblr. I love Jalex very much – one of my favorite incest ships for sure, Alex and Justin are just tooooooo shippable. How can one resist? And I think I’m still recovering from the sadness of the end of Forbidden even though it’s been a couple of years since I read it.

Hi! No, I did not delete it. Tumblr terminated my account! They were purging porn blogs last month and their algorithm targeted my blog too even though I have almost no NSFW content. I have emailed support in hopes of getting it back but I have yet to hear from them. I’m still hopeful it will be restored. In the meantime, I have another tumblr – astridreturns.tumblr.com to keep in touch and update everyone. If tumblr doesn’t restore my blog, then I’ll be creating a new “headquarters”, possibly on pillowfort or another site.
